It's hard to imagine what life was like for those who walked this way more than 1,000 years ago.  Their art, carved into basalt stones scattered along a windswept desert escarpment, yields clues, but their life story remains a mystery, lost forever to the winds of time.  I spent a couple of hours exploring this remote ridge, pondering existential thoughts surrounding early inhabitants who made this area their home. And then, late into the evening, after the sun dropped over the southwestern horizon, the sky erupted in a fiery red, as it has for thousands of years.  Chihuahuan Desert, New Mexico, November 2021.
