With reports of the first grizzly to emerge from hibernation in Yellowstone, my mind turns to my favorite species of wildlife to observe and photograph. Male grizzlies will often emerge from hibernation in March to feed on winter-killed animals.  Sows typically leave the den later in the spring, often in late April or early May. Anyway, I look forward to seeing grizzlies this spring, like this unforgettable bruiser that I encountered a couple of years ago in the Absaroka Mountains of Wyoming. So here's to spring, and the awakening of the Great Bear!
