Flow. I've spent a bit of time exploring the Henry's Fork of the Snake River canyon between the massive upper Mesa Falls and lower Mesa Falls looking for fresh perspectives and access points to the river from the basalt cliffs that form the canyon rim. I found a way down above the lower Falls and descended to the water's edge through huge boulders and thick brush. I then hiked upriver about a mile hopping from rock to rock along an unfriendly maze of boulders and small springs to set up in this location a mere 100 feet below the rail fenced access trails that allow visitors a safe vantage point to view the falls from the classic upper perspective. I've been thinking about this shot for a few years, and with the tremendous flows on the river the past few weeks, I figured the time was right to photograph a seldom-seen perspective of what 1,700 CFS looks like from the river's edge below Mesa Falls.
